TPS650861 Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMI

Texas Instruments' TPS650861 single-chip, power-management IC (PMIC) is designed to be programmed for optimal output voltages and sequencing. It features three controllers to provide flexible power capable of up to 30 A with large, external field-effect transistors (FETs) for high-power designs as well as scaling down in both size and cost for smaller designs. These devices provide system power for a wide variety of applications thanks to 3 A converters, three general purpose low-dropout regulators (LDOs), a termination LDO for double data rate (DDR), and three load switches.

The D-CAP2™ and distributed control systems (DCSs) high-frequency voltage regulators use small passives to achieve a small solution size. The D-CAP2 and DCS topologies have excellent transient response performance, ideal for processor core and system memory rails that have fast load switching. The TPS650861 has two banks of one-time programmable (OTP) memory.

  • Two banks of one-time programmable memory for programming default voltages and sequence
  • Wide VIN range of 5.6 V to 21 V
  • Three variable-output voltage synchronous step-down controllers with D-CAP2 topology:
    • Scalable output current using external FETs with selectable current limit
  • Three variable-output voltage synchronous step-down converters with DCS topology:
    • VIN range of 3 V to 5.5 V
  • Three LDO regulators with adjustable output voltage
  • VTT LDO for DDR memory termination
  • Three load switches with slew rate control:
    • RDS(ON) < 96 mΩ at input voltage of 1.8 V
  • 5 V fixed-output voltage LDO (LDO5):
    • Power supply for gate drivers of switched-mode power supply (SMPS) and for LDOA1
  • Built-in flexibility and configurability by OTP programming:
    • Six general purpose input (GPI) pins
    • Four general purpose output (GPO) pins
  • I2C interface supports standard-mode (100 kHz), fast-mode (400 kHz), and fast-mode plus (1 MHz)
  • Programmable logic controllers
  • Machine vision cameras
  • Video surveillance
  • Test and measurement
  • Embedded PCs
  • Motion controls
