Side-Loading Coin Cell Retainers

MPD’s coin cell retainers offer a cost-saving alternative versus traditional battery holders. Stripped of their plastic carriers, coin cell retainers require fewer raw materials and manufacturing steps to produce than standard coin cell holders. This creates the potential for a highly-simplified power management solution that is extremely lightweight, low profile, and very cost efficient. Elimination of the plastic carrier reduces profile by allowing the battery to rest directly on the PCB surface, where dual beam contacts create two distinct points of contact with one of the battery’s two terminals. They deliver a redundant electrical connection that is unlikely to be broken even if the battery shifts its position due to shock or vibration.

MPD’s high-quality coin cell retainers are constructed of nickel-plated phosphor bronze, which provides continuous battery contact even under dynamic conditions. Phosphor bronze offers superb spring qualities with good elasticity, high fatigue and corrosion resistance, wide temperature range, is nonmagnetic (nickel is magnetic), and excellent solderability.

Coin cell retainers also require a conductive pad located on the pc board surface directly beneath the battery to create a contact point for the battery’s opposite terminal.
